Complementing the primary residence is a two-story gatehouse and a four-car carriage house with a chauffeur’s quarters. Designers Frank Slesinski and Serena Brosio collaborated on the charming living room in the Gatehouse. “One of the main things we did was add a window seat, which looks like it should always have been here,” Slesinski says. “Our whole goal with this space was basically to turn the lights on in the room, bring in the garden that’s outside, and kind of have an experience of a breath of fresh air,” Brosio says. In addition, to open up the building windows and skylights were strategically cut into the thick street-front concrete walls and the roof, bringing light into classrooms and studios while making the program visible to the street. The intention was to create a unique system for light and environmental control while bringing in a filtered light that is critical for drawing and design studio instruction.
